FOODIE FRIDAY REVIEW

Friday Foodie Review: HEARTS CHOICES CAFE

Some thing that you should know about me is that I LOVE thai food. I’m also really picky about it. I’ve tasted some incredible thai food and I’ve also had some terrible thai food. SO, I was really excited to try out Hearts Choices Thai Vegan Cafe located just off of Macleod Trail SW and Southland Dr in Calgary.

As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a man named George. He was probably the sweetest man I’ve ever chatted with and was so helpful with choosing a meal. He let me try a bunch of different sauces and soups they had there too, which I thought was so great. He also remembered my name and said it each time we chatted which made me think, he probably knows every single one of his customers by name – impressive. As I was chatting with him, I learned that their dishes are all 100% vegan and MSG-free. What I also liked about this place was that they sold vegan grocery options as well (items like cashew cheese). Now, I’m not vegan, but I know a LOT of people who are and I would recommend this thai place in a heartbeat to them.

I decided to try their Thai Green Curry dish with coconut rice and a greens salad. George let me try a spoonful of the green curry sauce before I ordered it and I knew instantly I had to have a serving of it (Seriously… its SO GOOD. It’s pretty spicy too which I obviously loved ha-ha). It came with all sorts of veggies too. It was such a big serving and it only cost me $12! I upgraded my rice to coconut rice so my meal actually would have been $11.00 – such a good deal.  (I had to take some to-go which is always nice. Anyone who knows me, knows I will pack up anything from a cup of food to a few tbsp of food to-go. No shame)

You can check out their website and view their menu here.

Out of the sauces I tried from George, these ones have to be my favorite: Thai Yellow Curry, Green Curry, Kung Pao “Beef” and their Spicy Peanut Sauce. Their peanut sauce wasn’t as creamy as I normally get anywhere else I have it, but that’s what I liked about it. It was spicy and more savory than sweet. It was delicious.

In summary, if you are craving delicious thai food (you don’t even have to be vegan!) and are wanting bang for your buck, check out this place, you won’t regret it.
