Easy-to-Make Warm Golden Mylk Latte (vegan)

Lately, I have been completely obsessed with turmeric (golden mylk) lattes. Turmeric is so incredibly nutrient-dense and one of my favorite things to add to my food dishes and elixirs when ever possible.

Turmeric contains an active ingredient called curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also a strong antioxidant. Curcumin can be poorly absorbed but you can help increase absorption by taking it with black pepper (this contains piperine which is a natural substance that can enhance absorption) or with a fatty meal as it is fat soluble. Taking curcumin with either of these may help absorption by 2000%. Since it’s well known that chronic inflammation is a main focus with many chronic diseases, it’s always a good idea looking into anti-inflammatory foods that you can add into your diet as well as looking into supplements for extra support (if needed). Turmeric is also incredibly warming for your body. That being said, every one is different and what might work for some people, might not work for others.

DISCLAIMER: Make sure to check with your health practitioner to confirm if taking turmeric/ curcumin is right for you or if it interacts with any of your supplements and/or medications. Warm Golden Mylk Latte (vegan!)
(inspired by Alive Magazine and their Golden Milk recipe in this months copy)
1.5 – 2 cups of milk of your choice (I usually choose almond milk)
1 tsp ground turmeric
1-2 dates, pitted OR 1 tbsp maple syrup (or to taste) I prefer the dates so I can increase fiber. I do find maple syrup easier to use if you don’t have a vitamix or a blender than can handle hot liquids
1/2 tsp ground cardamom
2-3 pinches of pink sea salt & pinch black pepper
1 tbsp coconut oil or coconut butter
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Directions: If you have a vitamix, add all ingredients and blend on high until frothy. If not, add all ingredients to a pot on the stove (or your slow cooker) and heat until low boil happens. Once hot, transfer to a blender that can handle hot liquids and blend until well mixed. You can always use maple syrup instead of dates and add it all to a slow cooker. You can then have it on low heat and sip on it throughout the day/night.
